ROADKILL: THE LAST DAYS OF JOHN MARTIN

ROADKILL: THE LAST DAYS OF JOHN MARTIN
Production: USA, 1989
Director: Jim Van Bebber
Category: Psycho-Killer
Vicious short on an Ed Gein theme, with a cannibal psycho who makes nude girls hop around in a cage over the gas-rings while he trucidates their boyfriends. Shot with Van Bebber’s customary verve, velocity, and unflinching eye for vomitous detail. Also from this period is Chunkblower, a short trailer for a projected (but never made) feature. Van Bebber also co-made (and acted in) a mockumentary, Doper (1994), about permananent drug narcosis, and has shot music videos for several bands, including Pantera, Frontline Assembly, Superjoint Ritual, Skinny Puppy and Necrophagia, the latter in particular being exercises in total gore, splatter, nudity, blasphemy and depravity set to cacophonous Satanic metal (the short films include Bloodfreak, Burning Moon Sickness, and Deep Inside I Plant The Devil’s Seed).
