MOTORCYCLE GANG
Production: USA, 1957
Director: Edward L. Cahn
Category: Biker/Juvenile Delinquency
A JD/biker movie about illegal street-racing, released after the sensational screen outburst of Marlon Brando’s The Wild One in 1953 – which also prompted Double-Cross (1941), an old police thriller about renegade cycle cops, to be retitled Motorcycle Squad and re-released for television – and the meteoric rise/death of James Dean. Motorcycle Gang is just one of the many youth-oriented movies directed by veteran Cahn in the latter 1950s. It was followed in 1958 by films such as Dragstrip Riot, in which bikers clash with hot-rodders.
