ANGELI BIANCHI… ANGEL NERI

ANGELI BIANCHI… ANGELI NERI
Production: Italy, 1969
Director: Luigi Scattini
Category: Mondo/Occultism
Scattini’s original Italian mondo film was a compendium of scenes of witchcraft and black magic across the modern world, including the Church of Satan, voodoo rites, and naked exorcisms. In 1970 Lee Frost, leading director of both “roughies” and mondo movies in the US, picked up the film for American release and decided not only to retitle it Witchcraft 70 (Scattini’s original title translates as “White Angels, Black Angels”), but to shoot and edit in additional footage; this included a nude Black Mass conducted by Alex Sanders in Bedford, England, and devil-worshipping rituals by California hippie freaks near Spahn Ranch, home of the Manson Family. Also known as The Satanists.
