UN TRANQUILLO POSTO DI CAMPAGNA

UN TRANQUILLO POSTO DI CAMPAGNA
(“A Quiet Place In The Country”)
Production: Italy, 1969
Director: Elio Petri
Category: Madness/Ghosts
Franco Nero and Vanessa Redgrave star as an artist, plagued by nightmares of strange, sadistic sex rites, and his lover who rent a house in the countryside. Nero becomes convinced that the house is haunted by a young girl’s ghost and eventually loses his mind completely. With temporal elisions, hallucinations and a chilling Ennio Morricone score, the result falls somewhere between a haunted house movie and the fragmentary psychological jolts of Nic Roeg. Nero and Redgrave (by then a couple) teamed up again the following year for Tinto Brass’ Drop-Out, and again in 1971 for the same director’s La Vacanza.
