Fuest cut his teeth on classic cult TV series The Avengers, directing such outstanding episodes as “Game”, “The Rotters”, and “They Keep Killing Steed”. Dr. Phibes is filled with similar flourishes of camp and the bizarre, utilising Vincent Price to perfect effect as Phibes, the insane organist who works only towards one end, avenging the death of his wife by a series of biblical murders as he prowls an art deco labyrinth. He returned in Fuest’s less engaging sequel, Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972).
